We understand that accessing contraception can sometimes feel difficult or daunting. At Carlton Lane Pharmacy, we make the process as discreet, comfortable, and straightforward as possible. Our pharmacists are trained to deliver sensitive, professional support without judgement.
We provide free oral contraception and emergency hormonal contraception to eligible patients under NHS services. All consultations are conducted in private and everything you share with our pharmacist is completely confidential.

Types of Contraception Available
Emergency Hormonal Contraception
The morning after pill can be taken after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure to reduce the risk of pregnancy. It is most effective when taken as soon as possible after the event.
Two types are available: Levonorgestrel (Levonelle) which works for up to 72 hours, and Ulipristal acetate (ellaOne) which is effective for up to 120 hours (5 days). Our pharmacist will help you choose the most appropriate option.
Time is Critical
Emergency contraception is most effective the sooner it is taken. Please do not delay — come in or call us as soon as possible.
Oral Contraceptive Pill
Under our NHS service, we can provide repeat supplies of the oral contraceptive pill to women who have previously been prescribed it and whose needs have not changed.
If you are looking to start the pill for the first time, our pharmacist will provide advice and refer you to your GP or a sexual health service for a full assessment and initial prescription.
What to bring
If you have been taking the pill previously, bring your current pack or know the name and dose of your pill. Our pharmacist will check suitability during a brief consultation.
What Happens When You Visit Us
Arrive or Call
Walk into Carlton Lane Pharmacy any time during opening hours, or call ahead on 01924 823137 if you would prefer to speak to someone first.
Private Consultation
Our pharmacist will speak with you privately. Everything you discuss is completely confidential. You will not be judged or made to feel uncomfortable.
Medication Provided
If appropriate we will supply the medication immediately with full instructions on how and when to take it, and what to expect.
Ongoing Support
We will advise on future contraception options and refer you to your GP or sexual health services if additional support or assessment is needed.

Yes. Under our NHS service, eligible patients can receive emergency hormonal contraception free of charge. Ask our pharmacist for eligibility details when you visit.
No. Everything discussed with our pharmacist is completely confidential. We will not contact your GP or share any information without your explicit consent, except in very exceptional legal circumstances.
As soon as possible. Levonorgestrel is effective within 72 hours, and ulipristal acetate (ellaOne) within 120 hours (5 days). The sooner it is taken, the more effective it is. Please do not delay.
If you are already taking the oral contraceptive pill and have been prescribed it previously, we may be able to provide a repeat supply through our NHS service. First-time users need to be assessed by a GP or sexual health service first — we can facilitate that referral.
